This is the email I sent out to announce the launch of http://identi.ca/ to its beta users.
Hello, everyone! You're receiving this email because you're currently registered on Identi.ca, the Open Source microblogging site. I'm excited to announce that Identi.ca is now "public". A couple of links to start off:
- press release
- announcement on my personal blog
Now, the inside scoop: I'm setting some personal success metrics for the site:
- 1000 users by the end of this week (currently ~150)
- ... 10,000 users by the end of July
- ... 100,000 users by the end of 2008
- 10,000 posts by the end of July (currently ~1000)
- 100,000 posts by the end of summer
- 1,000,000 posts by the end of 2008
These are admittedly ambitious, but I think they're achievable. But it'll require your help; I hope that your early adopter-status on this site shows that you're sympathetic with its goals and philosophy.
- Please invite your friends, family, and colleagues to register on the site. Make sure to pass along your own profile page URL (mine is http://identi.ca/evan ) and ask them to add you as a friend.
- Please feel free to post the public URL to your blog, Facebook, or to social bookmarking sites.
- It's OK to submit to bigger blogs or news sites; please pass along contact info.
- Feel free to submit to social news sites. I've already added it on the following networks (please vote them up!): Reddit Digg
- Please log in and post today! It'll be great to have a lively active site as new people come online.
- If you'd like to give me a quote for the press release, please send me an email off-line -- I'll edit it in.
I'm going to be working over the next month on some of the most requested features: multilingual interface, push/pull notices from/to Twitter, and SMS notifications. Please keep up the steady stream of feedback!
Thanks to you all for your support so far, and if things go well, you're going to point to this email in the future -- "I was one of the first!" Looking forward to taking this whole thing to the next level,
-Evan Prodromou
P.S. I appreciate your patience with receiving this bulk email. I'm going to build some opt-in newsletter features to Laconica (see http://laconi.ca/PITS/00043), but if you want me to avoid sending email to you in the future before that happens, please let me know.
