Last night was our friend Sam's birthday, and she and Maj went out to clubs for the night. I got to stay home with the baby and put her to sleep, which turned out to be harder than I thought.
Sam is one of my favourite people in Montreal -- one of the people that I think about when I think, "I'm glad we live here." She's from New Zealand, and did graduate work in philosophy at Rutgers (my mom and dad's alma mater) until moving up here two years ago. She's really smart and funny and nice -- people call her "The Genius" behind her back -- but she's also kind of shy and goofy. She met and married a really cool guy, Eric, and now she's waiting to get her immigration stuff sorted out before she can work again.
Anyways, putting the baby down was harder than I thought. When Amita was just born, up to a few months, I did a lot of the baby-sleep stuff, but she's been getting into more of a sleep pattern and that's meant nursing down with Mama at particular times and places. I've been putting her down for naps and such, but I'm surprised to realise how seldom I put her down to sleep for the night.
But we did OK. It was all right. We read some books and sang songs and walked around the apartment about 300 times and after some false starts, she fell into a deep sleep that stuck after I put her to bed. Which was nice, because by that time Papa was pretty worn out himself.
WiLiKi
I've done some more work on the site with the CSS sheet and whatnot. I still don't feel crazy about it, but it's getting better. I added my ideas to the WiLiKi WishList, which I hope will be useful. The fact that I seem to be the sole anglophone in the WiLiKi community probably puts me at a grave disadvantage.
I tried writing a new class to hold my formatting customizations, but it didn't seem to work. I suspect a poor interaction between gauche's object system and its module system. Harrumph.
Wikitravel
Things have been going well with Wikitravel; we've got two new nominated admins, and the site traffic topped 45K visits per day all week last week. There's been some movement on the outstanding issues that deal with the Internet Brands acquisition. I think people are being extremely patient as we get our ducks in a row; It's definitely appreciated.
