I was sad to see that Wikia, Jimmy Wales's commercial wiki hosting service, recently launched a wiki travel guide. As a founder of Wikitravel, which recently partnered with rival Open Content wiki travel guide World66, I don't like seeing needless duplication of effort. Wikia has been a great member of the Free Culture community, and I hope they'll take the needs of Open Content as a whole, as well as their business requirements, into account. I wrote an Open letter to Wikia about the matter.
