It's finally the kind of summer day we deserve in Montreal. We put up with a lot during the winter, fall, and spring. We really do have a right to our fantastic summers in the Saint Lawrence Valley. It's only fair. And today is one such summer day: cool, sunny, green leaves everywhere. People out and about.
Amita June, Maj and I had an appointment at the CLSC this morning to talk to a nutritionist. Because we're pescevegetarians (we eat fish, dairy, eggs, but not poultry or red meat), we've been wondering how to work out a healthy diet for Amita June that matches our own. When we asked our doctor, she suggested a trip to the nutritionist.
The dietician was great -- we talked about things to watch out for, things that we were doing well and things to start changing. The good thing is that she suggested we should start moving away from the puréed foods and more towards bite-sized chunks of the food we're eating. Spices, garlic and onions, more flavorful and complex foods are good to start introducing now (to avoid having a picky eater later).
The big news? Iron. We have to make sure the baby gets lots of iron, which means lots of iron-fortified cereal and legumes. The most iron-rich legume is chick peas, I guess. So we stopped at the fruiterie on the way home and got ingredients for hummus. I made a huge batch and now we'll have lots of hummus for days and days around here. Good for the blood!

Totally Wired
I'm glad to see that my friend Frankenstein Jones has a new blog called "Totally Wired" in which he writes long show reviews for The Fall. It is excellent, and Frankenstein is one of my favorite writers. I love reading his stuff. I hope he goes to more The Fall shows.

Weirdness at WHO
So, there's been a lot of coverage in the media of the avian flu outbreak in Indonesia. What I haven't seen covered at all is that the WHO's Director General Dr LEE Jong-wook died on Monday. I hope they can deal effectively with the two crises they have.
