OpenID is a protocol for distributed authentication across the Web. I've been pretty interested in it since hearing a talk about it at Recent Changes Camp 2006, and I implemented an OpenID extension for MediaWiki.
You can log into Wikitravel with an OpenID, and Wikitravel user accounts can be used as OpenIDs across the Web.
